Dassera is a time when people celebrate Goddess Durga in different forms during the Navaratris. In Vijayawada, where Goddess Kanaka Durga is worshipped, the festival is usually celebrated on a grand yet traditional scale.
This year, in 2025, the Chandrababu government plans to transform the event into a spectacular affair, inspired by the Mysore celebrations. The festival, named Vijayawada Utsav, will include a range of cultural and entertainment programmes across the city.
At Punnami Ghat, devotees and tourists can enjoy dandiya, live bands, and water sports. Gollapudi will host a 30-acre expo. Since Dassera is also a popular season for movie releases, several film pre-release events will be organised.
Throughout the ten-day festivities, cultural programmes will take place at Kalakshetram. In addition, Vijayawada will host heli and balloon rides, along with special activities designed for children.
The government aims to highlight local traditions while also showcasing modern advancements, offering both devotees and tourists a vibrant and immersive festival experience.
