The Andhra Pradesh government is moving ahead with its plans to build Metro rail in Vijayawada and Vizag. Route maps for both cities have already been prepared, setting the stage for a major boost in urban transport infrastructure.
On Monday, Metro Rail Corporation MD Ramakrishna Reddy announced deadlines for tender submissions. Companies can submit tenders for Vizag Metro until October 10, while the deadline for Vijayawada Metro is October 14, giving bidders a short timeframe.
He added that companies can also apply through joint ventures, with a maximum of three firms allowed to participate together. The decision came after requests from contractors, aiming to encourage broader participation and stronger competition.
Reddy expressed confidence that more companies will take part in the tender process. The government expects this move to reduce construction costs and ensure faster completion of both metro projects, making urban commuting smoother for lakhs of residents.
According to the plan, Vizag Metro will stretch 46.23 km across three corridors, while Vijayawada Metro will cover 38.40 km across two corridors. Together, they represent a significant step in modernising public transport in Andhra Pradesh.
