Virat Kohli’s Resignation: To Checkmate Ganguly?

BCCI has started an exercise for recruiting Team India’s next Head Coach. The current coach Ravi Shastri’s tenure ends after the ICC T20 World Cup. Buzz is that BCCI President Sourav Ganguly is keen on bringing back Anil Kumble as the Head Coach.

Kumble earlier successfully coached Team India till ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Back then, the Cricket Advisory Committee headed by Sachin Tendulkar, Laxman and Ganguly had appointed Kumble. But he did not get an extension as he had differences with Virat Kohli. Ravi Shastri was Kohli’s choice.

Now Ganguly is the BCCI President and is pressing to bring back Kumble. If that is not possible, VVS Lakshman will be the next option. Laxman has been a mentor of the IPL side Sunrisers Hyderabad for some years now. Buzz is that Kohli is not happy with this decision of bringing back Kumble.

There are rumors that Kohli’s resignation as T20 Captain is a threat to the BCCI about the appointment. But then, sources say Sourav’s words may prevail this time. In case both the options do not work out, BCCI may look at foreign coaches.
