Vishakapatnam loses High Court chance?

Vishakapatnam which lost the chance of hosting the state capital to Vijayawada is also losing out the chance of having the High Court. The Cabinet sub-committee on land-pooling for the new capital is of the opinion that the state High Court should be located in the same place along with the Assembly and the Secretariat as the officials need to attend the court on a regular basis in different cases.

Having a high court in other place than the capital is definitely possible but the government says such a move will be cost and as well as time consuming as Vijayawada and Vishakapatnam are some 100s of Kms away. However Chandrababu Naidu told the committee to consider the possibility of setting up a high court bench at Visakhapatnam and another in Kurnool (Rayalaseema). It is known that Siva Rama Krishnan Committee favoured establishing the high court in Vishakapatnam.
