Modi to highlight Vizag Success Model

Narendra Modi’s government is planning to implement Vishakapatnam model of LED street lighting in 100 cities across the country. Post hudhud, Greater Vishakapatnam Municipal Corporation with the help of Energy Efficiency Services Limited had installed LED street lights in the city.

Due to this step, the Municipal Corporation has achieved a savings of 43 per cent in power bills from January to July when compared to the same time last year. Now the Central government wants to replicate this success in the 100 cities of the country.

However there are issues in Vishakapatnam regarding the maintenance of the LED street lights. The absense of a central monitoring system is making it difficult for the identification of non-glowing lights. Also there are problems of frequent failures of drivers of LED lamps and surge protection devices, requirement of spares and manpower.
