In connection with the murder of Durgaprasad, a volunteer from Ayanavilli, tensions in the Konaseema region have resurfaced. The murder took place on June 6, 2022, during a time of large-scale riots related to the renaming of the Konaseema district after Ambedkar.
The case, which remained largely inactive under the YSRCP government, has gained momentum after the TDP-led coalition government took charge and reopened the investigation.
Pinipe Srikanth, son of former YSRCP minister Pinipe Vishwaroop, has been identified by the police as the main accused in the murder. Durgaprasad and Srikanth were reportedly active in party activities together, but tensions arose when Srikanth allegedly found out that Durgaprasad had sent obscene messages to his family members.
These tensions are believed to have culminated in Durgaprasad’s murder, as outlined in a remand report from a man named Ramesh, who was also questioned by the police.
The case saw little progress under the previous administration, despite a complaint being filed by Durgaprasad’s wife.
However, after the coalition government took up the matter, Srikanth was arrested by the police while hiding in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. He was brought to Andhra Pradesh on a transit warrant after being presented before a judge in Tamil Nadu.
In response, Pinipe Vishwaroop has criticized the TDP-led government for what he claims is an act of political vendetta. He accused the coalition of using the murder case as a tool to target his family and stir up party politics in Konaseema. Vishwaroop expressed his dismay at his son being implicated in the case, alleging that the arrest was politically motivated to divert attention from other issues.
