Watch: First Gold For India In 100 Years

Neeraj Chopra has rewritten history at Tokyo Olympics 2021 by winning the gold medal in men’s javelin throw. This is the first time an Indian athlete won the gold medal at the Olympics in a track-and-field discipline in close to 100 years.

Also, Neeraj is only the second Indian to win a gold metal in individual category after Indian shooter Abhinav Bindra, who achieved this feat back in 2008.

Neeraj’s gold takes India’s medal tally at Tokyo Olympics 2021 to 7, which is the country’s best ever medal haul in the Olympics.

Neeraj Chopra’s 87.58 meter throw in the second round couldn’t be bettered by any of his opponents and landed the gold medal for the 23-year-old athlete at this year’s Olympics.

Congratulatory messages have been pouring in for the young athlete and rightly so. India now has 1 gold medal, 2 silver medals and 4 bronze medals.
