What Next in Special Status Fight?

The Opposition in Andhra Pradesh has called for another Band in the state today for the Special Status. There are reports that YSR Congress MLAs may resign en masse in protest of denying the Special Status. If that really happens and the by-elections do not come, it may be the end of all options in the fight.

Unless Jagan, Pawan Kalyan, or Chandrababu sit for an indefinite fast for the Special Status, almost all the options were exhausted by the parties. The elections are still more than a year away and all the parties are looking at the Special Status as the election issue and important for their prospects.

But it looks like it is impossible to keep the issue burning until the next elections. So, the leaders are scratching their heads so as what to do next to take the issue forward. Despite doing all that they can, the Center seems to be totally detached from the issue and there is no chance of making any moves to please the state.

Bandhs and protests repeatedly may actually dilute the seriousness. So all the parties may have to try out something different to keep the issue burning. On the other side, BJP which has no stakes in Andhra Pradesh seems to have given up the state and will only look for post-poll alliances if needed.
