Why CBN Did Not Rename Krishna Dist After NTR?

YSR Congress believes it has scored a political point against Chandrababu Naidu by creating NTR district and it feels it will get the support of Kamma community enmasse because of this move. While no one can ratify the claim, there is a question why Chandrababu did not do it in the first place.

First issue is if at all Chandrababu names a district after NTR, YSR Congress machinery will give it family and caste colour. Chandrababu does not want such legend to be marred in political controversies. The second one is Krishna district’s demographic structure.

Kamma community is in the influential position in Krishna district and if the district is named after NTR. There is a danger of the district name becoming a potential conflict and that may intimidate the other communities in the district.

“We have an Opposition party which may add fuel to the fuel to create disturbances in the district,” a TDP Leader told us. Also, Chandrababu Naidu does not want people saying naming a district after NTR became possible because his son-in-law is the Chief Minister.

While all these reasons look reasonable, we can not forget the fact the then Congress Government named Kadapa district after the late YSR. Even some one like Rosaiah did not go too much into political calculations. Chandrababu as always was overcautious and will carry the blame of failing to do at least that much for his party founder.
