Jai Prakash Narayan’s Lok Satta had announced its first batch of candidates for the upcoming elections. Amid speculations of shifting to other constituency, JP announced that he will be once again contesting from the same Kukatpally constituency. In 2009, JP chose Kukatpally as the constituency have more educated voters and settlers from Seema Andhra region. Added to that, people from JP’s caste are more in Kukatpally which worked in the former bureaucrat’s favour.
However, things have changed drastically from then, Lok Satta’s graph is falling from then continuously and also there is a strong wave of dissatisfaction among the people about JP’s working there. Surveys have predicted that JP may not win from the seat. However, JP felt that shifting to other seat will send wrong signal and will also work against the party’s poll fortunes. Hence he had decided to take the risk.
On the other side, TDP did not field its candidate in the last election from Kukatpally and alloted it TRS as a part of alliance but TDP will be contesting this time making life tough for JP. Since, caste voting and settlers votes may tilt towards TDP.
