Will Modi at least help Telugu politicians?

Both the Telugu States have their own displeasure about Narendra Modi’s government helping them after the state bifurcation. However the politicians of both the sides are hoping that Modi will help them at least politically.

Increasing the Assembly seats in Telangana from 119 to 153 and in AP from 175 to 225 is there in the AP Reorganization Act but until now center is delaying it saying that since the delimitation should happen according to Article 170 of the constitution. However the Article says that the Assembly seats across all the states in the country will not be touched until 2026.

Ruling governments in both the states are pressuring the center to bring an amendment to the article so as to increase the seats before the 2019 elections. Even though center was reluctant initially, they are currently thinking of doing that, sources say. This increase will be of great help especially to the ruling parties on both the sides since those parties have more than one candidate in many seats due to defections after the elections.
