Women Politicians Are Pets of Their Husbands

A study by Ms Dava Madhavi, a PhD scholar from the political science department of Kakatiya University revealed some shocking facts about political women empowerment. Only 7.4 percent of the elected women corporators elected from Warangal, Karimnagar and Nizamabad municipalities say they are in politics before they are interested.

A sensational 49.6 percent of the elected corporators said that they were in politics because their husbands suggested them to be there. Another 11.1 percent entered politics on their parent’s suggestion while 1.9 percent of them were asked by their family members to go for it. The study was conducted on 54 elected women corporators, 18 each from the three municipalities.

The study also revealed that all 54 women corporators taken for the study were selected from women and caste-based reserved constituencies which mean that they would have existed in case there are no reservations. Almost all these women are the proxies of their husbands and know nothing about politics or administration.
