
Baby steps are being taken for making Ongole airport a reality. In January, a special team from Delhi arrived to oversee the model airport proposed at Kottapatnam. They suggested a few changes and the AP government is in the process of addressing them.
The AP Airports Development Corporation Limited (APADCL) has announced recently that the DPR must be prepared. Once the DPR gets ready, work on land acquisition will begin.
The revenue department has given an estimate that 657 acres of land will be acquired during the first phase. Out of this, 551 acres belong to VANPIC, 103 acres are patta lands and the remaining 12 acres is government land.
The revenue department shared that Rs 102 crore will be required to compensate for lands. The Airports Authority of India had given a go ahead saying that an airport was feasible in the area.
In all, 1086 acres are required for the proposed airport, conveyed the revenue department to the state government. The revenue department is identifying the land available around Kottapatnam including the patta lands.
