Sharmila later emerged as a strong political opponent of Jagan. She campaigned against him during the 2024 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections and subsequently became the Andhra Pradesh Congress president.

Meanwhile, speculation recently surfaced about Sharmila possibly looking to improve relations with Jagan. Some YCP-affiliated social media and media platforms carried reports suggesting that her daughter’s wedding invitation could provide an opportunity for the siblings to meet and reconcile.

The speculation gained attention after reports emerged about Sharmila’s plans to invite Jagan to her daughter Anjali Reddy’s wedding. Reports also discussed the possibility of their mother Vijayamma being involved in the family meeting.

However, Sharmila has now rejected the reconciliation narrative. Responding to the reports, she said that linking a family function with politics was an attempt to create a false narrative around her position.

Sharmila made it clear that inviting Jagan to her daughter’s wedding should be viewed as a family courtesy and not as an indication of any political reconciliation or change in her relationship with him.

She also pointed out that she had previously met Jagan at her son’s wedding and said the present invitation was similarly connected to her daughter’s wedding. Her remarks were aimed at making it clear that the family occasion should not be interpreted as a political development.

The latest comments come against the backdrop of the long-running differences between Sharmila and Jagan. While the two have appeared at some family occasions, their political positions remain separate, with Sharmila continuing to lead the Andhra Pradesh Congress.

The recent speculation therefore appears to have prompted Sharmila to publicly clarify her position. Rather than allowing the wedding invitation to be interpreted as a possible political rapprochement, she has described it as a courtesy connected to a family occasion.
