Uttarandhra is once a strong forte of Telugu Desam Party. The party gradually lost its hold on the region once it occupied opposition berth in 2004. YS Raja Sekhar Reddy led Congress Party stamped its authority on the region in the two elections. The popularity of YSR led to immense popularity to YS Jagan in the region. The party got good results there in the Panchayati elections.
The rise of late Yerranna Naidu’s son, Ram Mohan Naidu has improved TDP’s chances in Srikakulam district. Botsa Satya Narayana still has some good hold in Viziangaram district. While in Vishakapatnam, TDP is slowly gaining strength with the entry of Ghanta Srinivasa Rao. Aaraku is a strong segment for YSR Congress. The party got a land slide victory in the Panchayati elections. Ex-MLA Kumba Ravi Babu was instrumental in the party success there.
But all of sudden, Ravi Babu was refused the seat and a new name cropped up suddenly. Kumbha Ravi Babu along with 62 Sarpanchs and mandal level leaders resigned for the party. Analysts say this will be a big blow to the party in the region. We will have to see how this new political equations pan out for YSR Congress in the region.
