What Is the Film About?

The story of Committee Kurrollu is about a gang of friends in a village and their journey from being kids to married adults.

The movie’s basic story is changes their relationships undergo and also the surroundings around them, politically and dramatically. How the friends fall apart and do they reconcile is the underlying theme.

Performances

The movie has as many as sixteen mostly new faces. The best thing about it is each individual fits the profile of the character they are supposed to play perfectly.

Sandeep Saroj plays the mediating guy who always tries to bring people to peace. He gets the lion’s share during the end and is alright. However, it is Trinadha Varma and Prasad Behara who get more memorable parts. The latter steals the show in all the scenes he is present in. Trinadha gets a huge emotional scene where he is fine.

The rest of the actors, like Yeshwant Pendyala, Eshwar Rachiraju and others, are okay too in their roles.

The girls don’t have similar impactful roles, though. Everyone plays a love interest or wife to someone that’s it. Raadhya is easily the standout among them.

Analysis

Yadhu Vamsi writes and directs the Committee Kurrollu. It is inspired by his real-life events and chronicles the journey of youth in that time.

Committee Kurrollu has too many characters initially, which makes it a bit confusing to follow. This is mainly due to the huge ensemble cast, who are mostly unknown faces, but the vibe is right from the get-go, and the honest intent in the making is crystal clear.

The series of moments that take one on a nostalgic trip to childhood work well consistently. The songs that come in between, though they do not stay with us when we leave the theater, blend with the flow. Better songs with recall value would have definitely elevated the film, but that’s a miss.

What works really big in the first half is the entire Jathara sequence leading to the interval; whether it’s the intensity, the engaging factor, or the BGM, everything comes together, making it super effective and making us look forward to the second half. At this point, the first half feels satisfactory despite all the new faces; one will surely appreciate the effort.

The second half commences with the actors appearing grown up and mature. The initial stretch, revolving around them facing each other, is fine.

The main thread, focusing on Subbu and Suri, which eventually leads to a tragedy both for them individually and for the village, gets the central focus during the proceedings. It is done well, and the emotions are effective.

After all the good to decent happenings, Committee Kurrollu falters in the final act. With the emotional arc of Subbu and all the friends coming to a close, the narrative no longer captures interest. Even the closure, involving Sattayya’s Jathara arrival, feels somewhat simple. The film could have had a final punch with an emotional climax followed by Jathara before the audience exits the theater, but it is instead stretched needlessly with the uninteresting ideas of elections and campaigning. These ideas are not fresh and only dilute the good work that went into the film up to this point. In fact, even if one removes the final 20 minutes from the film, there shouldn’t be any problem.

Overall, Committee Kurrollu is an attempt that deserves appreciation despite its weak climax. A bunch of new faces will make you nostalgic and emotional, thanks to their honest intent and effort, despite its issues.

Music and Other Departments?

Anudeep Dev’s music captures the nostalgic feel typical of such narratives. However, the actual songs don’t have a long-lasting impact; they work well within the context of the film. The background score is effective and enhances the film considerably. The cinematography is generally neat for a low-budget production, with the night scenes, especially the interval block, being well-shot. The editing could have been improved in a few places. Overall, the writing is good. The production values by Pink Elephant Pictures and Shree Radha Damodar Studios for a film of this scale are quite neat, and they should be appreciated for making a genuine attempt.
