What Is the Film About?

Mahi (Roopa Koduvayur) loves Gautam (Sayed Sohe ) deeply, madly, and crazily. However, the latter doesn’t care for her at all.
Does Gautam accept Mahi’s love? The movie’s core plot is what makes him go to the extent of having pregnancy in her place.

Performances

Big Boss fame Sayed Soh l plays the lead in the movie. The character is that of a typical youngster looking stylish and enjoying his life. There is the usual heroism and all. Sohel is fi e doing all the lighter stuff. There is a visible ease.

The drama and emotions come when the pregnancy segment takes over. Sohel is adequate here. He does everything neatly at a surface level and passes muster, but that’s it.

Roopa Koduvayur has a full-length role along with the hero, which isn’t just restricted to the songs. She looks good in certain angles highlighting the smile. The good part is as a pair; she works well with Sohel. Roopa does well in the dramatic portions towards the end.

Analysis

Srinivas Vinjanampati directs Mr Pregnant. The biggest USP of the movie, as the title suggests, is male pregnancy. The curiosity factor arises out of it.

The entire first half comprises the romantic track between the lead pair. The reason for mad one-sided love and how it’s reciprocated takes us to the pre-interval.

The whole rom-com aspect of the movie is flat and fails to engage. The thin-line stories rely heavily on comedy or chemistry to pull the narrative. None of that happens here, even tho gh the pair looks decent together. The main fault is the terrible writing. It comes across as very juvenile.

It feels as if the makers, too, know it and are only passing the time to reach the k y interval block where the USP is revealed. Unfortunately, t fails to give a solid emotional anchor. The audience’s reaction is similar to the doctor’s and evokes laughter. The reason to continue with it is anything but convincing.

The male pregnancy aspect in the story doesn’t give the organic, emotional feel to grab the audience’s attention and comes across as a gimmick. It is ultimately the movie’s biggest failure.

Despite the contrived nature, the narrative moves forward with the pregnancy hook. The first half of the second half focuses on the comic aspect related to the unique situation. Small parts of it have f n, but it mostly treads a predictable path. The stretch involving Brahmaji tests patience.

Things take a dramatic turn during the last half an hour. It’s here that there is some interest in spite of the predictability. The climax then leads to the expected speech about women’s greatness. Nothing is spec al here, but it’s okay, considering what preceded before.

Overall, Mr Pregnant is a routine affair with an intriguing hook. Sadly, it isn’t explored well and is used only to generate an utterly predictable ‘role-reversal’ fun and drama. It ends up as a forgettable fare.

Performances by Others Actors
Mr Pregnant has few supporting actors. Among them, Harsha, Raja Ravindra and Suhasini are notable ones. Harsha easily stands out between them. It is a typical comic sidekick part he has done many times. He does it clini ally again. The same is the case with Suhasini. Raja Ravindra starts well but takes a backseat immediately and doesn’t get that momentum again

Brahmaji appears briefly and irritates due to the poorly etched part. It is also one of the poorest segments of the movie. The rest of the cast is forgettable.

Music and Other Departments?

Shravan Bharadwaj provides the music for the movie. The songs don’t impress, but the background score is adequate in places. The cinematography is decent but looks patchy at times. The long delay also makes the final product look a bit dated. The editing is alright. The writing is disappointing. It’s utterly routine and banal for the setting.
