What Is the Film About?

Ram (Suhas) accidentally meets Satyabhama in an accident. This incident changes his life as she falls in love with him.

How Satyabhama turns Ram’s life upside down and what happens to their love in the end is the movie’s basic plot.

Performances

Suhas is his usual self, but with an additional layer of fear. He is generally okay, but the messy execution buries everything and doesn’t let anything register. Ultimately, it turns out to be a forgettable affair for the actor.

Malavika Manoj looks well cast for the part. It doesn’t offer much in terms of acting, but there is a lot of fun to be had along with good clothes to wear. She scores in the looks department, and is decent otherwise.

Analysis

Ram Godela writes and directs Oh Bhama Ayyo Rama. It is a typical love story with an attempt to give it a fresh entertaining twist.

The movie opens on an emotional note, though. And then it proceeds with the entertainment narrative. The jarring shift in emotions strikes immediately. Soon this inconsistent tone becomes a consistent issue.

The lead pair’s romantic track is the key to the entire proceedings. It takes us back to the My Sassy Girl days. The film within a film narrative also adds to the feel. However, the problem here is that it doesn’t work. It feels very irritating.

The mix of humour and emotion is where the narrative falters. Neither of the emotions works with the mix they are presented with. It doesn’t recover anywhere during the first half. By the time one reaches the interval, it’s a huge sigh of relief. In fact, one shudders to think what might lie ahead at that point.

Given the terrible first half and the kind of expectations it sets for the rest of the movie, things post-intermission don’t appear that bad. They are predictable, but at least the clarity is felt instead of the messiness one had felt previously. This can be seen with the flashback portions where despite its utter predictability, it gives a semblance of emotion.

However, once the narrative returns to the present with the lead pair track, the same issues seen in the first half, persist here as well. A few comedy gags work, despite the double entendres, but that’s about it.

The feeling of restlessness sets in once again as the thin storyline is stretched with illogical and unfunny moments. The pre-climax and climax are a huge stretch to reach the predictable end.

The climax is a drag and a bore. The emotions feel forced and never earned. It’s ultimately the bane of a love story.

Overall, Oh Bhama Ayyo Rama is a messy affair from the start to the end. Some moments aside, nothing connects. As a whole, its lack of redeemable quality makes it a forgettable affair.

Performances by Others Actors

There are a few known faces in supporting parts, but none have a worthwhile role. Anitha and Ali are the best of the lot with a couple of emotional scenes to do. The former is grace personified in the mother’s role. She is fine making her comeback in Telugu after ages. Ali is more subdued than his usual self and plays a proper supporting character instead of being a comedian. He is okay. Pruthvi is wasted. The actors playing the comic sidekicks are fine in a few places.

Music and Other Departments?

If there is any department in the movie that shines then it’s the music and background score by Radhan. The songs don’t stand out in particular, but the whole design and sound with the background work is superbly done. It holds the patchy and uneven film together. The cinematography, too, is neat considering the budget. The editing could have been better. The writing is generic and lacks any depth.
