60% Women in RTC after Free Scheme

Right after assuming power in Telangana, the Congress party rolled out a free bus ticket initiative for women statewide. Since its launch, the scheme has received an overwhelming response from women passengers.

Reports indicate a remarkable surge, with women occupying 60% of the seats in RTC buses since the scheme’s implementation. Monday saw a total of 51 lakh individuals utilizing TSRTC buses, with 20.87 lakh being men and 30 lakh women.

However, this initiative has led to a decline in RTC’s revenue. Typically, RTC generates approximately 18 crore rupees from 50 lakh passengers. Yet, on Monday, their earnings amounted to only Rs. 11.74 crores due to the implementation of this scheme.
