AP’s Actions Threaten Hyd’s Water Supply

The Union Home Department stepped in to address the dispute between Andhra Pradesh (AP) and Telangana over Nagarjuna Sagar water. Central Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla held discussions with the Chief Secretaries and DGPs of both states, suggesting the transfer of dam management to the Krishna River Management Board, under CRPF supervision. Both AP and Telangana agreed to this proposal.

However, on November 29, AP sent 500 armed policemen to Sagar Dam, damaging CCTV cameras, opening gates, and releasing water, causing security concerns amid Telangana’s Legislative Assembly elections. This action jeopardizes Hyderabad’s water supply, affecting millions. AP’s recurrent violations aggravate the situation. Telangana’s CS Shanti Kumari urged the Union Home Department to maintain the status quo since 2014, highlighting the critical water needs of Hyderabad and its vicinity.
