Challenges For Metro In Gachibowli

Hyderabad Metro is gearing up for the second phase of expansion, with officials conducting field surveys for the proposed 76 km of new metro lines, following CM Revanth Reddy’s directives. The ambitious plan includes constructing a new route from Rayadurgam to key locations such as the Financial District, Biodiversity Junction, Triple IT Junction, ISB Road, Wipro Lake, and the American Consulate in the Financial District.

During the initial route assessment, challenges arose, especially around the Gachibowli ORR intersection and Triple IT via Biodiversity Junction. Existing construction of 3-storey flyovers at Gachibowli Junction posed complexities and increased construction costs. As a pragmatic solution, officials considered integrating part of the proposed route into the Rayadurgam-Airport Metro Express project initiated by the KCR government.

Originally, the KCR government had planned a 31 km airport metro express route from Rayadurgam to Shamshabad International Airport. However, with the change in government, a shift in focus led to the exploration of new metro routes. The current proposal suggests connecting the metro line from Rayadurgam to the Nanakranguda ORR interchange, bypassing Biodiversity Junction, offering a cost-effective and streamlined approach.
