Poonam Pandey’s death hoax proved to be one of the most bizarre incidents that happened in our country in recent times. Though she stated that it was done to spread awareness about cervical cancer, people are criticising the move.
Going by the law, Poonam also has a chance of getting convicted for her act. According to section 67 of the IT Act of 2000, an individual who is proven guilty of spreading false information on social media will be sentenced to three years of jail term and up to a fine of Rs. 5 lakhs.
If the individual repeats the crime, he/she should face a jail term of five years and up to a fine of Rs. 10 lakhs. A section of people are demanding the government to take action against Poonam Padeny for her death hoax.
