The TSRTC (Telangana State Road Transport Corporation) has issued a crucial reminder to women passengers regarding free travel under the ‘Mahalakshmi’ scheme. Women availing of this benefit must present their original identity card, as clarified by TSRTC MD Sajjanar.
He emphasized the necessity of a clear photograph and address on the identity card for validation. Notably, any original identity card issued by central or state governments is acceptable, except for PAN cards due to the absence of an address. Despite prior instructions, TSRTC has observed instances of passengers displaying photocopies or color copies on smartphones, causing inconvenience to staff and delaying travel times. To address this, all women passengers are urged to exhibit their original identity cards to avail themselves of the zero-ticket benefit.
Failure to present the original card will require payment for the ticket. The Mahalakshmi scheme specifically caters to women in the Telangana region; women from other states must purchase tickets for travel. Sajjanar stressed that taking a zero ticket is crucial, as the state government will reimburse TSRTC based on zero-ticket issuances. Traveling without a ticket may result in staff repercussions and a possible Rs.500 fine upon inspection.
