Renowned Tamil actor and politician Vijayakanth passed away earlier today after battling illness for several months. Recently diagnosed with COVID-19, he received ventilator support at Chennai’s MIOT Hospital. At 71 years old, he left a profound legacy.
MIOT Hospital officials confirmed his passing, and his mortal remains have been transported from the hospital to his residence in Saligramam.
Vijayakanth, a luminary in the Tamil film industry with over 150 films to his credit, was affectionately known as the “Captain” among his fans. Entering into politics, he established the DMDK party and served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from 2011 to 2016.
