AI Billboard Will Now Shame Traffic Rule Offenders

Bengaluru has launched an AI-powered digital billboard at Trinity Circle to display traffic challans of vehicles in real time. The system scans registration plates from up to 100 metres, pulls data from the VAHAN database, and instantly shows unpaid fines and expired pollution certificates.

The initiative, supported by Cars24, CrashFree India, and Monday Ventures, aims to nudge drivers into accountability. Instead of serving only as a penalty reminder, it combines technology with social pressure by publicly displaying defaulters, pushing road users to be more responsible.

With over one crore vehicles on its roads, Bengaluru records around 30,000 violations daily. In 2024, nearly 83 lakh cases generated Rs 849 crore in fines. By August this year, violations worth over Rs 1,150 crore had already been recorded. The numbers highlight the city’s urgent road safety challenge.

Authorities believe the AI billboard is more than a tool for punishment. It is a way to address long-standing disregard for traffic rules by blending awareness with deterrence. While its impact will depend on sustained behaviour change, it signals a tougher stance on road safety in the city.
