Big Uproar: Lord Ganesha on Underwear & Chappals

Devotional tactics might have helped some companies boost their sales and numbers, but that wasn’t the same case with Walmart.

The US-based online store is facing huge criticism from Indian customers especially in the US. Hindu community targeted the company for selling Lord Ganesha printed undergarments, slippers, swimsuits and several other wearables.

Several social media users accused Walmart of hurting cultural sentiments and demanded to take such items from the store.

The Hindu American Foundation (HAF), which is an organization for the rights of Hindu Americans also criticized the company for misusing Hindu devotional images on slippers and undergarments.

It would have been a better option to take off these items from the store but Walmart decided to showcase these items despite getting severe backlash from the users.

For a huge company like Walmart, their portrayal of Indian gods would certainly put them in a miserable position in the Indian market.
