Diwali Disaster: Outrage Against Swiggy & Zomato!

Swiggy and Zomato have raised their platform fee to ₹10 just before Diwali leaving customers furious. Many were left questioning the reason behind this money grab during the festive season.

One angry user on X pointed out that everything is already expensive—vegetables, food, subscriptions, and now this? They even bookended their tweet with #CancelSwiggy to hammer home their point.

Zomato was the first one to raise its platform fee on October 23, claiming it was for handling the “festive rush.” Soon its rival followed suit and increased their fee to ₹10 as well.

Both delivery apps have been steadily hiking their platform fees for months now. Zomato started at ₹2 in August but in only a couple of months, it has increased 5 times.

Even the premium subscription is not a solution for users as it doesn’t offer any relief from this mandatory charge. People are already paying GST, packing charges, and delivery fees and now on top of that, they have to pay these ridiculous platform fees.

As Swiggy and Zomato would already receive a huge number of orders during Diwali it seems like a greedy move to get more money out of our pockets. Instead of making the festive season easier, these price hikes have only made things worse.
