A shocking incident in Tamil Nadu has left many stunned after a 79-year-old man, Vinayagam, murdered his wife, Dhanalakshmi, over a delayed meal. The incident took place in Thirumullaivoyal when an argument escalated after Vinayagam, who is diabetic and requires timely meals for his medication, lost his temper. His wife, who was also unwell, couldn’t serve him food on time, leading to a tragic outcome.
After their two sons left for work, the argument between the elderly couple worsened. In a fit of rage, Vinayagam grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Dhanalakshmi in the neck, killing her on the spot.
Overcome with guilt, he then attempted to take his own life by slitting his neck but only sustained minor injuries. When their sons returned home later in the day, they were met with a horrifying scene. They found that their mother was lying lifeless and their father injured nearby.
Initially, Vinayagam denied his involvement, but under police questioning, he broke down and confessed to the crime. He has been charged with murder and is currently receiving medical treatment under police custody.
Many online reactions have been filled with disbelief, sarcasm, and criticism. Some pointed out the grim irony of the situation, with comments like, “Now he’ll get food on time in jail.”
Many others have condemned the act, calling it a senseless tragedy and emphasizing that no dispute, no matter how small, should ever escalate to such an extreme.
