A 17-year-old girl in Faridabad’s Shyam Colony was shot by her stalker, Jatin Mangla, while returning home from coaching class. CCTV footage shows Jatin waiting in a narrow lane before firing at her from close range. She was hit on her shoulder and side. Her friends ran for safety, and she is currently in hospital and out of danger. Police have recovered the weapon and are searching for Jatin.
The girl’s family had earlier informed Jatin’s parents about his behaviour. They assured that it would not happen again, but nothing changed, leading to this shocking incident.
A similar crime was recently reported in West Bengal, where a stalker raped and killed a minor girl returning from tuition. Such cases are rising, and many begin with stalking that later turns violent.
There is growing concern that stalking is not taken seriously enough. Strong punishment and quick police action are necessary to stop such offenders and protect young girls across the country.
