Trapped and Abused: A Child Labour Nightmare

India’s child labour crisis often remains hidden inside homes. Young lives are quietly exploited, away from public view. Though laws exist, weak enforcement continues to fail vulnerable children.

In Panjabari, Guwahati, a disturbing case came to light recently. A 12-year-old boy working as a domestic help for six years was rescued. The intervention took place late at night.

The child was found living in poor conditions. Visible signs of abuse highlighted the severity of the situation. The case exposed how deeply rooted the issue remains.

Soon after, an even more shocking incident emerged. A 13-year-old girl was hidden for 25 minutes inside a divan storage box during a raid. She had suffered six years of forced labour.

The girl was employed by Amrin Akhtar Laskar. Dispur Police Station registered case 60/26. Legal action is currently underway.

These rescues reveal serious systemic failures. Employers continue to exploit poverty and helplessness. Authorities often act only after receiving tips or conducting raids.

Guwahati’s back-to-back cases in February 2026 triggered widespread outrage. One report crossed 270 views, while another surged to 505K. Discussions intensified across platforms like X.

Experts stress the need for stronger vigilance. Regular home checks and quicker NGO-police coordination are crucial. Harsher penalties for abusers must follow.

Parents also need economic support to keep children in school. Without structural change, such abuses will continue. India’s future will keep paying the price, one child at a time.
