“In Pakistan 80% Men Are Gay, Remaining Bisexual”

A viral YouTube interview on the channel Queer Global has sparked debate after Pakistani Khwaja Sira activist Hina Baloch made a bold claim. She stated that 80 percent of men in Pakistan are gay, while the remaining are bisexual.

Hina Baloch described same sex relationships in Pakistan as an open secret. She said these realities are often hidden due to religious and cultural pressures. According to her, fear and stigma force many individuals to conceal their identities.

A Chevening scholar with a master’s degree in gender studies from SOAS University of London and co founder of Sindh Moorat March, Hina shared her personal experiences. She spoke about growing up in Karachi and observing such realities closely.

She claimed that several people within her extended family were involved in same sex relationships. However, social stigma prevented open acknowledgement. This silence, she suggested, reflects the wider situation across society.

As part of Pakistan’s recognised Khwaja Sira community, Hina highlighted the challenges faced by gender minorities. She pointed to conservative interpretations of Islamic law that criminalise homosexuality, which continue to create pressure despite private realities.

The video clip quickly went viral on social media platforms. Some users supported Hina for raising awareness about hidden issues. Others criticised her remarks, calling them exaggerated and lacking data based evidence.
