77-Yr-Old Hyd Woman Trusted WhatsApp and Lost ₹1.8 Cr

Online scams have become easier with digital platforms. A shocking case from Hyderabad shows how a 77 year old woman lost her lifetime savings to a WhatsApp scam. She trusted messages that appeared official and ended up losing ₹1.8 crore.

The woman first received a message claiming she had won a ₹2 crore lottery. The sender used a fake identity posing as RBI. She was also shown forged documents carrying PM Modi’s image to make the claim look genuine.

Over time, she began trusting the scammers. She shared sensitive details including Aadhar, PAN, and bank information. The fraudsters gained control of her phone and pressured her to break fixed deposits, claiming it was required under RBI norms.

Unaware of the deception, she made multiple transactions. Her bank balance dropped to just ₹6,000 after losing ₹1.8 crore. Reports say the scammers even posed as Mukesh Ambani to strengthen their story.

Online users have expressed sympathy for the elderly woman. Many are urging younger people to educate seniors about such scams. They stress the importance of never sharing personal or financial details on calls or WhatsApp messages.
