Landmark: Shikhar Dhawan Granted Divorce After Cruelty

Shikhar Dhawan, the star Indian cricketer, has been granted a divorce from his wife Aesha Mukerji by the Delhi High Court on the grounds of cruelty. The court observed that Aesha had subjected Dhawan to mental agony by forcing him to live separately from his only son for several years.

The couple had tied the knot in 2012 and had a son named Zoraver, who is an Australian citizen and resides with Aesha in Australia. Dhawan had sought permanent custody of his son, but the court did not pass any order on that issue.

However, the court granted him mandatory visitation rights to meet his son in India and Australia. The court also noted that Aesha had obtained favourable orders from the Australian courts regarding the child’s custody and property matters, which emboldened her stance in not complying with the previous court rulings in India.

The divorce effectively dissolves the 11-year marriage that was solemnised in a Gurdwara in Delhi.
