Tech giant ‘Meta’ has decided to initiate yet another series of mass layoffs, this time going as far as to fire over 3000 employees by Monday at 5 AM local time.
The company announced that they are looking for new machine learning engineers in accordance with their changed priorities for 2025, and will be firing the 3000 lowest performers across the world.
Countries like Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands will be exempted from this due to local regulations, many employees in the US, Africa, and Asia, including India will be the ones to bear the force of these layoffs.
The issue has captured the attention of social media, where users have come forward to express their viewpoints.
One user wrote, “It’s disheartening to see tech giants like Meta resorting to mass layoffs. This will undoubtedly affect many Indian families. The tech industry needs to find more sustainable solutions.”
Another commented, “The exemption of countries with strict labour laws highlights the need for stronger employee protection regulations in India.”
With jobs in the tech industry becoming more volatile by the day, it has become the need of the hour for local governments to provide some sort of safeguard in place for their workforce to not get thrown out of their jobs overnight.
