Love Rejection Murder: Would Reaction Change for Women?

A spine chilling case has come out of Nagpur where a 38 year old man killed a 23 year old woman. The crime was first shown as a suicide. Later reports confirmed that violence was involved in her death.

Shekhar Dhore a 38 year old married man was obsessed with a 23 year old student Prachi Hemraj Khapekar who lived in his neighbourhood. He made advances towards her. After she rejected him he became angry and killed her.

He tried to pass it off as a suicide by hanging her body from a ceiling fan. However the autopsy report exposed the truth. This shocking case has triggered widespread anger across social media especially among women.

Many people feel that in India accused men often get more support than women. They believe if the roles were reversed the woman would be blamed. Since it is a man some feel the case is being treated casually.

Violence against women has become so common that people have grown numb. Crimes are reported every day. Yet justice for victims remains slow and uncertain which adds to the frustration and pain.
