Assamese actress Nandini Kashyap has been arrested in Guwahati after a hit-and-run incident that led to the death of 21-year-old engineering student Samiul Haque. The tragic accident occurred around 3 a.m. on July 25, 2025, in the Dakhingaon area of the city.
Samiul Haque, a student at Nalbari Polytechnic and part-time employee with the Guwahati Municipal Corporation, was returning after repairing street lights when he was struck by a speeding SUV. The vehicle was allegedly driven by Nandini Kashyap and hit his two-wheeler with deadly impact.
CCTV footage captured the moment of the crash and revealed that the actress did not stop to assist the severely injured Samiul. Instead, she reportedly fled the scene, sparking public outrage and a desperate attempt by friends and witnesses to pursue the vehicle.
According to reports, the actress was later found at an apartment complex where she had allegedly hidden the SUV. Though she initially promised to support the victim’s treatment, Samiul Haque’s family has claimed that she later abandoned them.
Samiul sustained critical head injuries and multiple fractures and was admitted to intensive care. Despite efforts to save him, he died on July 29 after days of treatment in the hospital.
Nandini Kashyap was initially detained for questioning. However, after her involvement was confirmed through CCTV footage and following Samiul’s death, she was formally arrested on July 30. She has been charged under non-bailable sections, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
The incident has triggered widespread protests, with local groups and the victim’s family demanding quick justice for the young man whose life was cut short by reckless driving.
