New Aadhaar Rules for NRIs

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has updated Aadhaar rules to simplify the enrollment and updating process. Notably, separate forms for resident and non-resident Indians (NRIs) have been introduced.

NRIs can now apply for Aadhaar at any Aadhaar Kendra. Previously, only online address updates were allowed, necessitating in-person visits for other updates.

The new rules enable Aadhaar information updates through Aadhaar Seva Kendra, mobile apps, or the UIDAI website. Different forms cater to various categories:

– Form 1 for residents and non-residents (18 and older, with Indian address proof).
– Form 2 for NRIs with addresses outside India.
– Form 3 for children aged 5-18 with permanent Indian addresses.
– Form 4 for NRI children with addresses outside India.
– Forms 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 for various categories, including residents and NRI children below 5 years and foreign nationals.

The rules mandate updating Aadhaar every 10 years, achievable online or at Aadhaar Kendras. Aadhaar serves as identity and address proof and is crucial for online KYC in investments.

NRIs can enroll by visiting an Aadhaar Kendra, presenting a valid Indian passport, and completing the required forms.

OCI cardholders can also obtain Aadhaar by meeting residency criteria. The process involves biometric capture and documentation verification.
