A tragic incident shook Agra’s Nagla Nathu village in the Sikandra area when six teenage girls drowned in the Yamuna river while trying to record a video reel.
The victims, aged between 12 and 15, included three sisters from one family and three of their close relatives who were visiting during summer vacations.
According to reports, the girls had gone to the Yamuna river early in the morning to bathe. Before entering the water, they recorded a short video on a mobile phone. This reel turned out to be their final memory, as moments later they were swept into the river’s deeper currents.
They moved toward the middle of the river and got trapped in a whirlpool. Other children present at the site ran to inform villagers, who immediately alerted the police.
Local divers began searching for the girls, but the rescue was delayed. The police and PAC divers joined the operation with a steamer. After nearly an hour of effort, all six girls were recovered from the water. Four were declared dead on the spot, while the remaining two succumbed during treatment at the hospital.
The incident has left Nagla Nathu and nearby villages in deep mourning. Families of the victims are devastated, and the community is struggling to come to terms with the loss. It has been reported that there was no proper ghat at the spot where the girls entered the river.
This heartbreaking event also serves as a grim reminder of how the pursuit of internet validation often pushes young people into unsafe and sometimes fatal situations.
