Fast Roads, Slow Justice: Rs.80,000 Cr Insurance Stuck

India’s road infrastructure has expanded rapidly, improving connectivity and economic activity. However, the human cost of road accidents continues to go unresolved. Faster highways have not translated into timely support for victims and their families.

Recent reports highlight that nearly Rs 80,000 crore in road accident compensation remains stuck with insurance companies. More than 10 lakh claims are pending. Delays persist due to the absence of a strict and enforceable grievance redressal system.

Accident victims already dealing with injuries face rising hospital expenses and loss of income. Families struggle to cope while insurers take advantage of regulatory gaps. The prolonged wait worsens financial and emotional distress.

The Supreme Court has directed the Transport Ministry to address the issue. Meetings have taken place, but poor coordination among stakeholders continues. As a result, affected families remain stuck in uncertainty.

A viral post on X has brought wider attention to this issue. It highlights how delays in compensation represent a serious injustice. The most vulnerable continue to suffer while funds remain locked.

Such prolonged delays weaken trust in institutions and deepen hardship for survivors. A clear framework with fixed timelines, independent oversight, and digital tracking is urgently needed. Accountability and swift action are essential to restore faith in the system.
