Swiggy has increased its platform fee to Rs 14 per order ahead of the festive season. The hike of Rs 2 has already been applied in select cities, while in other places the charge remains Rs 12 per order, as per media reports.
According to the company, this increase will improve per-order profit and strengthen its financial performance during the upcoming festive rush. Swiggy first introduced a platform fee in April 2023 at just Rs 2, and has gradually increased it without losing customers.
The latest rise means significant earnings for the food delivery giant. With more than 20 lakh orders per day, the company will now make an extra Rs 2.8 crore daily, translating to Rs 8.4 crore quarterly and Rs 33.6 crore annually.
Industry analysts note that while customers may not feel the impact of Rs 2 per order, Swiggy’s overall financial gains are massive. Both Swiggy and Zomato have tested higher platform fees on high-demand days in the past, without a dip in order numbers.
Reports suggest Swiggy may roll back the fee to Rs 12 once the festive season ends. For now, the company is prioritising profits while preparing to handle a surge in food orders during festivals.
