A bizarre incident took place in Bilasipara, Assam, where AIUDF MLA Samsul Huda allegedly assaulted an employee with a banana tree simply because a pink ribbon was used instead of a red one at a foundation-laying ceremony. The incident, which was caught on video, has sparked outrage among locals.
The ceremony was initially proceeding smoothly until Huda noticed the ribbon color. He reportedly grew furious, reprimanded contractor employee Sahidur Rahman, grabbed him by the collar, slapped him, and then uprooted a small banana plant to beat him.
The lack of bricks for breaking a coconut also seemed to add to his anger. The entire incident unfolded in seconds, leaving witnesses shocked.
Following the assault, a complaint was filed at the Gauripur police station and later transferred to Bilasipara police station. A case has been registered under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, and an investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, Huda, facing public backlash, issued an apology, claiming circumstances led to his actions. However, many are questioning the sincerity of his apology, with some calling it a mere damage-control attempt.
This incident raises concerns about the behavior of public representatives and their misuse of power.
While an investigation is ongoing, the public is watching closely to see whether the law holds the MLA accountable or if the matter fades with time.
