A wave of protests in Los Angeles turned violent this week, resulting in large-scale looting and vandalism in the downtown area. Among the most prominent targets was an Apple Store located at the intersection of West 8th Street and Broadway.
Videos circulating on social media show masked individuals smashing the store’s glass doors and fleeing with various Apple products and merchandise.
The protests, originally organized in response to aggressive immigration raids conducted by the Trump administration, began peacefully during the day.
However, as night fell, the situation rapidly escalated. Multiple stores in the area including Adidas, jewelry shops, pharmacies, and marijuana dispensaries were ransacked in a similar manner.
Footage shows dozens of looters dressed in dark clothing entering the Apple Store and grabbing electronics while alarms blared.
Some devices displayed a warning message saying they were disabled, being tracked, and that local authorities had been alerted. Graffiti was also painted on the storefront, further contributing to the destruction.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass condemned the violence and looting, stating that such acts undermine the purpose of the protests and exploit the cause of immigrant communities. She assured that all those involved would be held accountable.
The Los Angeles Police Department has arrested several individuals so far. One woman was taken into custody for her role in the Apple Store burglary, while two others were arrested for participating in the looting.
The unrest, now in its fourth day, continues to raise concerns about public safety and the need for peaceful protest amid political tension.
