Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has shared his views on Ruturaj Gaikwad and praised him for staying focused on his work. He said Rutu proved his critics wrong with performance rather than words and continued to rise through consistency.

Aswin said he had seen articles that claimed Ruturaj was not comfortable at number four and had not scored in seven ODIs. He questioned why such doubts were raised only about him while others were not judged on such a small sample size.

Ashwin criticised the public and paid PR groups for supporting non-performing players. He said they often justify them with terms like X factor but fail to extend similar support to Gaikwad despite his strong List A numbers.

Rutu has scored 4647 runs in List A cricket at an average of 57.37 across 91 matches. In comparison, Rishabh Pant has 1789 runs in 67 List A games with an average of 31.94.

Priority Given to Pant Over Gaikwad
