Indian cricket broadcaster Akash Chopra has expressed disappointment over Axar Patel’s position in the recently announced BCCI central contract list for 2025-26. His comments have sparked discussion among cricket fans about the grading decisions.
Akash Chopra pointed out that Axar Patel has been placed in the C-tier category despite being an all format player. He also highlighted that Axar is currently serving as the vice captain of Team India in the ongoing T20 World Cup.
Akash said, “Axar Patel ko aur kya karna hoga to get what he deserves? Three-format player. Vice-captain in one format. Grade-C?? Also, if Jadeja and Gill are in Grade-A, why aren’t Hardik, Rahul and Kuldeep?? Even Arshdeep shouldn’t be in Grade-C.”
Axar Patel has contributed consistently with both bat and ball whenever the team needed him. His ability to adapt to different match situations has made him an important utility player in the squad.
The contract list has triggered strong reactions among cricket followers on social media. Many fans supported Akash Chopra’s remarks and questioned the grading system used by the BCCI.
Some discussions have also compared Axar Patel’s recent performances with those of other players included in higher categories. These debates have continued as fans analyse the contract decisions.
With conversations growing around the central contracts, attention has now shifted to how the BCCI evaluates player contributions across formats. The discussion highlights the importance of transparency in recognising performances in international cricket.
