Former India cricketer Mohammed Kaif has questioned the Axar vs Jadeja debate after the BCCI selectors left Axar Patel out of the ODI squad. Kaif clearly stated that based on current form, you get more value from Axar than Ravindra Jadeja in white ball cricket.
Axar last played an ODI in October 2025 during India’s tour of Australia. Since then, you have not seen him in the squads for series against South Africa and New Zealand. Kaif said this decision is difficult to justify.
Axar vs Jadeja selection question
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Mohammed Kaif said Axar contributes more with both bat and ball right now. He questioned why Axar was not even named in the squad when India were facing New Zealand, a side that traditionally struggles against spin bowling.
Kaif added that when you already have several fast bowlers in the team, balance becomes important. He pointed out that Arshdeep Singh was not getting chances either, which shows poor handling of team combination.
Why Axar Patel fits better now
Mohammed Kaif explained that Axar Patel can score quick runs and hit big shots when required. He also bowls effectively in the powerplay and has the ability to break partnerships early, which gives you better control in ODIs.
Axar’s performance during the Australia tour backed this claim. He scored crucial runs and bowled tight spells, proving his worth as a reliable all rounder in pressure situations.
Jadeja’s form and future
In contrast, Ravindra Jadeja has struggled in recent ODIs. In his last five matches, he managed only one wicket and failed to make an impact with the bat, which puts pressure on his place in the side.
Mohammed Kaif also said you can play both Axar and Jadeja together. Their roles are different, with Jadeja operating in the middle overs and Axar being effective earlier. With few ODIs left before the 2027 World Cup and the T20 World Cup approaching, Kaif feels selectors must rethink their choices. His message is clear, current form should matter, and Axar Patel deserves a fair chance.
