The Bangladesh government has announced an indefinite ban on the telecast and promotion of the Indian Premier League after Mustafizur Rahman was removed from the Kolkata Knight Riders squad.
IPL Broadcast and Promotions Halted
An official statement issued on January 5 confirmed that all broadcasts, promotions, and event coverage related to the Indian Premier League have been stopped with immediate effect. The ban will remain until further notice.
Government Calls Decision Illogical
Bangladesh authorities stated that the decision was taken in the public interest. They described KKR’s move, reportedly made under BCCI instructions, as illogical and upsetting to the public.
Strong Reaction From Bangladesh
Officials said there was no reasonable explanation for removing Mustafizur Rahman. They claimed the move shocked and angered cricket fans across Bangladesh.
Impact on Cricketing Relations
The controversy has already begun affecting cricket ties between the two nations. The Bangladesh Cricket Board announced that the national team will not travel to India for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Security Concerns Raised by BCB
BCB director Khaled Mashud Pilot questioned player safety. He stated that if one player could not be protected, the safety of the entire team could not be guaranteed.
ICC Likely to Intervene
The International Cricket Council is expected to step in, as Bangladesh was scheduled to play all four of their league matches in India.
Social Media Reaction in India
Meanwhile, Indian fans on social media have been mocking Bangladesh’s decision. The move has triggered widespread online debate and criticism.
