The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has dismissed a complaint against former India captain MS Dhoni over alleged conflict of interest. The complaint claimed his involvement with cricket academies violated BCCI rules.
The decision was delivered by Justice Arun Mishra, who currently serves as the BCCI Ethics Officer. After reviewing the complaint, he said there was no proof that Dhoni violated any rules while playing in the Indian Premier League.
The complaint was filed in February 2024. It alleged that Dhoni was playing in the IPL while also being associated with cricket academies run by Aarka Sports and Management Private Limited.
According to the complainant, Dhoni’s connection with these academies created a conflict under BCCI’s conflict of interest regulations.
Justice Arun Mishra noted that the agreement related to Dhoni’s academies was signed in 2017. However, the BCCI conflict of interest rules were implemented later, in September 2018.
Because the agreement existed before the rules came into effect, the ethics officer said Dhoni’s role in the academies cannot be treated as a rule violation.
The order also clarified that Dhoni does not hold any decision making position in cricket administration. He is only associated with the game as a player.
The ruling further stated that there was no evidence of favouritism or bias linked to Dhoni’s academy involvement.
It also explained that owning or being connected with cricket academies does not automatically create a conflict of interest under BCCI regulations.
The ethics officer also observed that the complaint appeared to arise from a personal or commercial dispute between the complainant and Dhoni.
Due to this, several allegations were considered outside the scope of BCCI’s conflict of interest rules.
After examining all details, the BCCI ethics officer concluded that no conflict of interest was established against MS Dhoni.
With this ruling, the complaint against the Chennai Super Kings player has been officially dismissed.
