Sponsorship Ban: BCCI’s Sudden U-Turn Too Late?

The BCCI has announced a ban on alcohol, betting, tobacco, crypto, and online real money gaming apps from becoming Team India’s title sponsor.

While this step appears commendable, many recall that the same BCCI earlier had no hesitation in promoting Dream 11 on the national jersey.

A Question of Timing

The sudden decision comes after government action against such apps. This raises doubts about whether the board is taking a moral stand or simply reacting to avoid future trouble.

Genuine Reform or Self-Protection?

The real question is whether the BCCI truly wants lasting change or if this is just damage control. By cutting ties with controversial industries, the board may be protecting its own interests more than the game.

Will the Ban Last?

For now, the move signals a shift in policy. But whether this sponsorship ban holds strong in the long run or fades once the pressure eases remains to be seen.
