IND vs SA Selection Twist: X-Factor In SRH Star Out

India are set to play Dhruv Jurel in the first Test against South Africa in Kolkata. Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed that Jurel is “certain to play,” even with Rishabh Pant returning as the main wicketkeeper.

Jurel’s Form Makes Selection Easy

Jurel impressed everyone during the West Indies series, where he scored his first Test hundred in Ahmedabad. Since then, he has added four more first-class centuries in just eight innings, including twin tons for India A against South Africa A. His form made the selectors’ job simple.

Team Balance Favors Both Keepers

With three spin-bowling all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, and Axar Patel India can play both Pant and Jurel without losing bowling depth. This means Nitish Kumar Reddy will likely miss out, even though he has recovered from his back injury.

Experience Over Experimentation

India once viewed Reddy as a long-term option, but the South Africa series demands results. “The main thing is to win the game first,” said ten Doeschate, hinting that experience will take priority in the opening Test lineup.

Performance Over Seniority

Jurel’s rise is the result of consistent hard work and big performances. His selection reflects India’s focus on rewarding current form over reputation. In Kolkata, you’ll see both Pant and Jurel in the XI a clear signal that merit comes first.
