India get ready for a long five-match Test series in England starting June 20, the big question is — will Jasprit Bumrah play all five Tests?
Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir recently said that Bumrah might only be available for three out of the five matches, raising concerns about his fitness and workload. But former bowling coach Bharat Arun doesn’t agree.
According to Arun, if the team uses Bumrah smartly and other bowlers step up, there’s no reason why the star pacer can’t be part of the full series.
Earlier this year, during the fifth Test against Australia in Dharamsala, Bumrah had suffered a back spasm.
He didn’t bowl in the second innings, which made everyone a bit nervous ahead of the England tour.
But despite the injury, Bumrah ended the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as the top wicket-taker with 32 wickets. That says everything about his impact and value to this team.
What Bharat Arun Said:
“I would expect him to play all the matches. But that depends on how much support he gets from the other fast bowlers.”
He explained that if Bumrah is forced to do most of the hard work, he might not last the full five Tests.
But if bowlers like Siraj, Akash Deep, and Arshdeep perform well, Bumrah’s workload can be reduced.
He also shared a smart solution — cut down Bumrah’s practice load between matches. Instead of heavy nets, Bumrah can spend time on recovery, strength training, or rest so that his body stays fresh.
Bumrah isn’t just a good bowler — he’s India’s bowling leader. With 205 wickets in just 45 Tests, he’s one of the best pacers in the world right now.
His presence on the field lifts the entire team, especially the other bowlers.
Playing in England is always tough. The weather, pitches and match schedule test every fast bowler’s fitness.
That’s why managing Bumrah will be crucial. If India want to win the series, Bumrah needs to stay fit — and for that, the others need to share the load.
Apart from Bumrah, India’s pace attack includes Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh and Prasidh Krishna.
They are young and talented but will have to punch above their weight to support Bumrah in five tough matches.
Bharat Arun’s view is clear — Bumrah can play the entire England series but only if he is handled wisely.
That means less pressure in the nets, more recovery time and most importantly, support from the rest of the pace unit.
India has talent galore but Bumrah’s fitness will be the key to how far they go in this big Test series.
